- The applicant must be a committed, baptized Christian who is an active member of an Evangelical church and who accepts Tokyo Christian University's statement of faith.
- The applicant must be enrolled in a post-secondary institution of the same accreditation level to TCU.
- The applicant should have completed at least one year of academic college-level work with a minimum GPA of 3.0.
- If not from CCCU school, a reference from an Evangelical minister is required.

The school year begins in April, but ELIS students may attend in the fall term also. Other arrangements, winter term or a year's study, are possible on a case by case basis.

Students are required to obtain medical insurance in their home countries and provide insurance documentation before arriving at TCU.
