Tokyo Christian University
Stephen T. FranklinWelcome. I'm glad you've taken the time to check out TCU's English-language website. I hope you'll continue to explore in detail. As you do, you'll find a remarkable university, and you'll discover a noteworthy opportunity, called ACTS-ES, that we hope will interest you as an international student.

We take seriously each word in the phrase “A Japanese Evangelical-Christian University with an International Commitment.”

We are Japanese. With roots reaching back over 125 years into Japanese history, TCU is fully accredited by the national Japanese Government. Over eighty percent of our board of directors, our faculty, and our students are Japanese. Most of our courses are offered in the Japanese language. God has called TCU to serve the Japanese church and society.

We are Evangelical Christians. Less than one percent of Japanese are Christians, and yet the influence of Christianity upon Japan has been profound. Our Japanese students are eager to explore what it means to be a Christian in their home culture. As Evangelicals, we are committed to sharing the Gospel and serving the church in Japan. TCU offers an overflowing basket of opportunities to learn the mind of Christ from within a Japanese context.

We are a university. Some of our students go into ministry after graduation, and some work as lay Christians. Every student studies theology, but every student also studies the liberal arts. We offer many ways for students to get practical experience in Christian living, but we also offer academic integrity in the classroom. Our degree is a Bachelor of Arts.

We have an international focus. Fifteen years ago, we adopted the motto, “From Chiba to the World.” Since then other groups in the Chiba area, both Christian and non-Christian, have adopted our motto. We have a long tradition of educating Japanese missionaries who serve abroad and of educating Japanese laity who work abroad. To reinforce this international commitment, six years ago, we created an English-language stream called ACTS-ES. In ACTS-ES, students can study in English, while progressing in their knowledge of the Japanese language, culture, and church. God has called TCU to serve the Asian church and society. Indeed God has called TCU to serve the church and society “even to the uttermost ends of the earth.”

Perhaps God led us to create ACTS-ES with you in mind! Please explore our website and consider whether God might be calling you to TCU in preparation for effective Christian living in your home country or anywhere else God may lead you.

I'll end on a personal note. The picture you clicked to get here shows me with my granddaughter Skyler Franklin. Skyler was just five months old when the picture was taken at a family reunion. She has grown quickly over the last year and now has honey-blond hair to match her big brown eyes. Skyler lives with her Mom and Dad near the city of Chicago in the United States. Do you have any relatives -- maybe a brother or sister, a niece or nephew, or perhaps a cousin -- Skyler's age?
